FAQs - Planning your court?

Learn about base requirements, assembly, performance, and considerations before installing your HEXPRO Sport Tile Court Kit.

What type of surface can I install my court kit on?

HEXPRO Sport Tile Court Kits are designed to be installed on new or existing solid, level surfaces such as concrete or asphalt. They are not intended for installation directly over loose aggregate or other non-solid surfaces.

HEXPRO tiles can be installed both indoors and outdoors — including gyms, basements, and converted recreational spaces.

If a non-solid base is not available, please contact our team to discuss alternative base solutions and project requirements.

What size should my base be for installation?

Your base should extend no less than 2" beyond the full court kit dimensions (including perimeter ramps) on all sides. This additional space allows for natural seasonal expansion and contraction of the tile surface.

Can additional game lines be added to my court?

Yes — additional game lines can be added to your court and are a very popular add-on.

Many customers choose to incorporate lines for other sports. Our team will work with you to confirm the layout and colour selections to ensure all game lines are accurate, easy to distinguish, and visually balanced.

If you’re planning a multi-use court, we recommend discussing your preferred sports during the design stage so we can optimize the layout for the best playing experience.

What pickleball net options do you recommend?

In-ground systems can provide a permanent setup but typically require additional installation work, including excavation and tile cutting to accommodate the post footings.

For most HEXPRO Court Kits, we recommend the EIGHTYNINE Sports portable net systems. Portable nets allow you to quickly set up and remove the net when needed, making it easy to use the court for other activities and entertainment.

There are two EIGHTYNINE Sports portable net systems designed to accommodate different styles of play, budgets, and preferences: the PX Portable Pickleball Net System for recreational play, and the Heavy-Duty Professional Portable Pickleball Net System for higher-frequency or competitive use.

What happens if it rains on my court?

HEXPRO tiles are engineered for rapid water management. Each tile features over 1,500 perforations for fast water dispersion, a raised support profile that allows water to flow drain beneath the surface, and a 360° Multi-Zone Slotted Traction System that promotes grip while assisting drainage.

In most cases, your court will drain and dry quickly once rainfall stops. Like any playing surface - even professional, play is typically paused during active rainfall — but HEXPRO is designed to return to game-ready condition as quickly as possible.

Can a backyard ice rink be installed on top?

Yes! A seasonal backyard ice rink can be installed over HEXPRO Sport Tiles using a liner to contain the water. The liner sits on top of the tile surface and will not affect the court system underneath.

If your court includes an in-ground basketball hoop, it is best to terminate the rink boards in front of the hoop whenever possible. If the rink must extend past the hoop, remove any gusset or pole padding and run the liner at least 10" up the vertical pole. Seal any liner cuts around the pole using waterproof tape to prevent water loss during the season.

Most temporary backyard rink board systems use flat surface brackets rather than in-ground brackets, which makes them compatible with the court surface.
